Jim has always had a passion for the arts and is now finally realizing a dream after a successful career in the construction industry. Born in Glasgow Scotland and raised on the prairies of southern Alberta,  Jim has always had an appreciation and love for the outdoors and a passion for the arts. Moving to the west coast reignited his long burning desire to embark on a second career as an artist. Jim and his wife lived on a converted seiner, the “Cape Dorset”, and cruised the beautiful Gulf Islands and the West Coast before moving ashore at French Creek between Parksville and Qualicum. The time living aboard supplied ample material and inspiration to develop Jim’s career as an artist.
An avid reader of art books and art history and student of drawing, pastels, oil and acrylic mediums, Jim is inspired to discover and experiment with new techniques, materials and challenges. Landscapes, seascapes and water scenery are his primary subjects.
Jim paints regularly with DeCosmos Fine Art Society Tuesday Painters, The Wednesday Painting Group as well as in the Gift Shop at TOSH in Qualicum Beach every Friday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
With paintings sold into private collections in Canada, the USA and England Jim continues to take classes and workshops with well-established artists to improve his technique and composition and to advance his personal style.
